I used Rufus to go from windows 10-11 because my cpu wasn't supported. Rufus is great to bypass windows making you setup a Microsoft Account. Been on Windows 11 just over 12months without any problems.

You didn't need Rufus to bypass MS account requirement, and if you had a local account you could upgrade to 11 from 10 and it would have preserved the local account.

Need to be careful though with a non supported CPU as I did it on my desktop and the computer refused to do any updates on its own, I had to do them manually (and when we got to 23H2 feature update it was absolutely adamant said update  didn't exist, has never existed and never will exist), so it was a bit of a chore to keep it updated, so I rolled it back to 10 and left it, I only use that computer every two/three weeks for one particular game (or some other task the laptop can't cope with).

@Neil_Jones You are right you don't need Rufus to bypass MS Account but with Rufus you can bypass it and setup your local account and it will then be made for you without doing anything. 👍

Plenty of people have used Rufus to bypass the CPU without any update problems. Did you use Rufus?

we are talking about an upgrade here so if Windows 10 was a local account it will remain a local account when upgraded to Windows 11 so you don't need Rufus

With Rufus you format the hard drive, always best to do a clean install when installing a new windows version.

But you can do that without Rufus anyway.  There are methods that are don't require creating a new ISO every five minutes.

You don't need a full reinstall every six months, I've gone from 1809 I think it was through to 22H2 on Windows 10 and works fine.

My Windows 11 laptop also went through 22H2 to 23H2 and will probably get 24H2 in due course.

Anyway they've changed the way this works now so it doesn't take all day to upgrade to a new feature version, its no different to any other Windows update and will be done in five minutes.

Why would you be creating a iso every 5 minutes? I have kept the iso where I used it on my laptop as well as my desktop. It's perfect with the options you get like bypassing Microsoft account and adding the local account. Using Rufus you don't come across problems like Windows not updating.

A clean install from windows 10-11 is always best. I'm not saying a clean install for different versions of windows 11 that would be daft. Why would you need a full install every six months?

yes the OP  has two choices - either just simply upgrade to Windows 11 and continue as normal or backup all their data, format the drive, create a Rufus ISO, reinstall Windows 11 as a new system, configure Windows 11 to how they like it, reinstall their apps and reload their data
