I used to live in a 2 up 2 down in a large city in Southern England and there was a weird object/device - in the hallway that I still have no idea what it was.......
It was set in to the wall - directly beneath the meters - but was not connected to either meter.
It looked like a box (12 inches by 8 inches) with a brass spindle through it - with 3 wooden or plaster cubes (about 2 inches) set on the spindle so they could rotate freely.
There was a perished rubber gland with a small hole in the rear of the box.
There were no markings on it. The house was built in 1875 so it could have been Victorian. I didn't take any photos at the time (camera phones didn't exist in the 80's).
Any ideas what this object could have been ?
If I was half as smart as I think I am - I'd be twice as smart as I REALLY am.
