TV Licence

Why is it, if your second home is a static caravan, mobile home or 'moveable' chalet, your tv licence is covered by your main home licence (as long as no one else is using the tv at that property), but for a non moveable chalet, you need a separate licence. I have several pensioner friends who have a second holiday home on a large chalet park used in the summertime only having to buy a separate licence for it, even though they have a full licence for their main home not being used for months. It seems totally unfair to me, especially as many of the chalets on the park are owned and used by pensioners.

Do they pay council tax on the second property? I think it's something to do with that..

Yes, they pay council tax, but I believe so do static caravans which don't need to pay for an additional licence.0

They can always cancel the license they are not using assuming it's for more than a month.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. Most holiday parks ensure the chalets and static caravans have wheels on them... even though they are essentially fixed in place by chains and services and may even need dismantling into two parts to move them.
If the chalet/caravan is immovable and built upon normal foundations then it's a dwelling in its own right.
Maybe they don't understand and haven't filled in the required declaration if TV Licensing have sent a "demand"?0 -
Just move the licence to the second property for the time that the person will be there then move it back when they return to their normal home! If the person would only be there for a week then just don't bother as the chances of a goon showing up on the site are rarer than rocking horse sh!teSomeone please tell me what money is0

I agree - move the Licence. TVL will refuse to move a Licence for a few days (for example, a weekend home), but several months should be fine.0
