Hi, I hope you don’t mind my posting on here, I’m hoping to join this month, but I have a quick question I hope one of you lovely people will know. Does Lidl still do the potato sacks? They used to be about £2.49 for 7.5kg last year but I haven’t been in for ages but am going to start shopping there again next month and I’m trying to budget and wondered if anyone knew?

    Thanks so much

    Missy

@missymoo81 I am a regular at Lidl’s. I can’t say I’ve noticed the 7.5kg bags of potatoes at that price. That’s around the price they charge for 2.5kg. Apologies if I am wrong.

  • Afternoon all,

I have several spends to declare totalling £131.58. This does also include some petrol costs.

My favourite shop of the week was at the Aldi's l mentioned before. Again it had lots of 50% reduced meat, l resisted the temptation to buy everything but stuck to meat l had intended or would buy anyway. I brought 6 x 500g mince meat, 2 x 700g diced beef and 1 x 500g pork mince all for £17.03 or the equivalent of £1.89 per meal  B)  I'll add these onto my freezer inventory and incorporate them into Octobers food plan.

    New totals  £447.46/£600

    Food £302.17/£420
    Petrol £145.29/£180

I must say this thread has made a significant difference to my spending assuming nothing major happens this will be three months in a row I've made savings. In the past l was struggling to come in on budget let alone the idea of savings. Thank you all for your support  :)

@missymoo81 I think the answer is “Not yet”.  They will probably have potato sacks later in the year, but, from what I recall, the three that I visited this week didn’t have any.  (I was looking for their Salmon Wellingtons.  Out of stock everywhere.). That’s the one annoyance with L!dl - their stocks are not entirely predictable.  Even rather mundane items, like breakfast muffins, can be out of stock for weeks.

I have two spends to declare, both from L!dl:  £9.32 spent on Thursday by DH, when I was just too shattered to cook - chemotherapy after effects finally catching up on me, so he bought quiche, salad and dessert on his way home from work  - and £11.47 spent by me yesterday on a YS pack of 6 Maple BBQ Pork steaks (£3.14), 1kg of soft dark brown sugar (£2.15), a dozen Gouda slices (£2.99), bran flakes (66p), puff pastry (£1.15), and two packets of the aforementioned breakfast muffins (69p each).

The above brings our total spend to £103.10/£182.60 leaving £79.50 for the rest of the month.

2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge 66 coupons - 39.5 spent.

    4 - Thermal Socks from L!dl
4 - 1 pair "combinations" (Merino wool thermal top & leggings)
6 - Ukraine Forever Tartan Ruana wrap
    22 - yarn
    1.5 - sports bra
    2 - leather wallet

  • @missymoo81 l was in Lidl yesterday but didn't notice any big sacks of potatoes, although were not massive potato eaters so l could be mistaken. I did buy a 2.5kg of Maris piper which cost £2.25 so if they are stocking bigger quantities id braced yourself for the cost  :#

@LotsOfTea well done on resisting the temptation I've been blinded by the lure of YS or offers in the past only to discover said "bargain" lived in the freezer forever or was even thrown away.

Thank you all for your replies, reading your posts have also spurred me on to set a budget and stick to it for next month.
  • Afternoon y’all. I’m about to catch up on the thread but wanted post my spends first. I just spent £20.16 at an Italian store in Edinburgh for pasta and various cheeses.

    £302.00 / £386.00 spent. £84.00 remaining

I’m on my train back home. Once there, I’ll check in with Mr. Jings regarding what he bought while I was away. Let’s see how we can eke out the next couple weeks without buying much besides the basics of yoghurt and fruit, etc.

  • Just spoke to Mr. Jings. He spent £39.87 while I was away this past week. He had guests and bought extras to cook and some of that was £8 on a jar of local honey which will last us a while.

    £341.87 / £386.00 spent. £44.13 remaining

We’ll need to start using the Love to Shop vouchers now. There are still about £30 in those which can be used at M & S. I’m planning to go shopping tomorrow for eggs, milk, fruit & yoghurt. That said, I may just go to Tesco and the egg machine instead.

  • While DS was doing sports this morning I walked to a nearby corner shop to pick up some onions for 90p as I was running very low and also popped into B&M where I spent £6.19 on scourers, Nairn's oat biscuits for packed lunches and 4 bags of Halloween sweets which I thought I might as well get while I saw them. We always get absolutely loads of trick or treaters so I snap up bags of cheap lollies when I can.

I'm now at £141.83/£250 so doing well so far.
