    I guess replying to me.
Yes there is a OBD2 port.
But dealers have a dedicated port in the engine bay for their connection, which is set up to be for more accurate than obd2.

This is a new one on me - is it factually correct?

Is there really a trend for car makers to have a standard OBD-based diagnostic port and also a separate connection (presumably using a proprietary, non-standardised protocol) elsewhere?

Exactly my point. Cars often have a manufacture only diagnostic port as well as OBD2 port.🤷‍♀️

Ah right - a 15 year old Kia Sedona has a Kia-specific socket in the engine compartment, and the person commenting on it in that Reddit post (from 5 years ago) says that more recent vehicles have changed to use OBD2 instead. So the answer is no - there is no trend towards adding extra diagnostic ports.

  • I used £3000 finance through the dealer on the car.  I dug out the docs and it clearly says the finance company owns the car and it's my duty to maintain it.  They've been in touch to acknowledge my issue which they keep referring to as a "complaint", although I don't think that's quite the right word, (yet) as it's just something that needs fixing.

They haven't said "sorry we can't help you" so they must be doing something.... just waiting to find out what they say next.

TBH, finance co are not there to fix the car. They are looking at this as S75 (which in effect is a complaint) & being jointly liable for the debt.
Yes, they can put pressure on the retailer, but that does not mean retailer will do anything.
