Mobile calls to Spain

My partner's daughter is moving to Spain shortly. What is the cheapest way to phone her - when I call it will be using my Lebara sim only phone but am confused as to what Lebara mean by free roaming. Should I, for instance, be thinking about  calling via a 3rd party app. I need to sort this pretty quickly as the daughter does talk quite a bit and it could prove costly!

Do it through Whatsapp. Problem solved. Cost = free.

The "free roaming" bit relates to when YOU are abroad, if you call a Spanish number from the UK on any operator in the normal way you are going to be charged. In some cases, a lot.
  • I called my parents or they would call me almost everyday and by far the easiest and cheapest is WhatsApp.  You also get the benefit of free video calling.

If you connect to your home WiFi then it's totally free.

You can also call on FB Messenger if you both have a FB account. You can also use Zoom (although generally you have to set an appointment for that). Both free

Whatsapp may be your best option, but you do also have 100 free international minutes per month with most Lebara plans.

Lebara also do plans with 100/500/unlimited international call limits.

PAYG rates to Spain are  Landline 2p/min Mobile 5p/min and SMS 6p so you could use a PAYG balance to call once any bundled use is exceeded.

But WhatsApp etc.,. allow voice and video calls over home wifi and may be better?

Check out your phone call history to see how long your chats are for, how often, and what they average over a month to estimate what 'plan' or payg credit will be needed once she moves to Spain.

    Looks like its WhatsApp then!

Partner just tried it by calling me - frightening as the camera was on and I realised what an ugly b*gger I am!

Thanks to you all for taking the trouble to reply.
