Over £2000 in debt due to wrong information

I hope someone can help.
i got an online contract for a mobile with Vodaphone and this was done with carphonewsrehouse. Just after Covid restrictions were lifted I contacted Voda phone to see if they could make my bills cheaper. I didn’t pass security on any of the calls I made as I was told my DON is wrong. After several emails/calls Voda phone said if I go to a shop with ID then they will update the correct DOB, I could not go to a shop. After more emails Voda phone decided to change the DOB by email. However this was far too late as my bill was passed over to a DCA and due to wrong DOB was unable to speak to them.
I made a complaint to CISAS about Vodaphone and how can I pass a credit check with the wrong DOB, however CISAS sided with Vodaphone. I then contacted carphonewarehouse and they said as soon as someone applies for a phone it goes straight to the credit agencies, so I contacted them and they said it’s nothing to do with them.
So I applied for a phone accidentally gave the wrong DOB, 3 yrs later and a new line added and contract extended was told incorrect DOB. Got into debt due to this as no one would speak to me, so where can I go now???

I don't understand the link between a minor admin error and running up £2K of debt, i.e. exactly how did the former cause the latter, in terms of preventing the bills being paid?

The same information as the OP's other thread

Nobody can understand the link there either.

@dcox78, you would have been better continuing your existing thread rather than starting a new one.

You have a nonpriority debt of 2k

Do you have other debts? Maybe post on debt-free wannabe

You have all the usual options. Pay it, pay in instalments, don't pay

You can dispute the debt but it may need a court to rule and only a small proportion of these sort of debts see court action. Most just get sold around for ever decreasing sums.

In fact I would not be surprised if what you say is a debt collector is actually a company who has bought the debt

This gives another option. Settle at a discount

You took out a contract and gave the wrong data (seems unlikely given you'd fail the credit check)

You asked them to lower bills but couldn't manage it

You ran up debt because you didn't pay your contract?

As above, try and settle at a discount

Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:

People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
