Wrong Date of Birth

I really need help as I don’t know where to turn too. 

I will briefly explain the issue. 

2018, went online to carphonewarehouse to take a contract out with Vodaphone, everything passed and got mobile. 

Dec 2021, want to contact Vodaphone as having issues paying bill, can’t speak to anyone as failed security, wrong DOB. . 

May 2022, got debt collectors letter through, rang them and they couldn’t discuss due to unable to get through security. 

June 2022, put complaint into Vodaphone, several discussions and all kept saying I need to visit local store to update DOB, each time I told them I was unable to do so, due to mobility issues, finally they sorted DOB via email, I wanted to know why I was allowed contract with wrong DOB (it was my error but didn’t realise until 2021) during 2018 and 2021 I had got a second mobile and a couple of upgrades. They can’t advise me why. 

August 2022, raised complaint with CISAS and after several emails found in favour of Vodaphone. Was informed that would need to speak to Carphonewarehouse as that’s who I first contacted. 

October 2022, several emails back and forward to carephonewarehouse, it’s nothing to do either as when they get details it goes straight to mobile provider. 

February 2023, contacted Equifax, who do the checks and again after several emails / phone calls have passed the buck back to Vodaphone. 

Can anyone help me, yes I put my wrong DOB in, but how did I pass a credit check and get upgrades and a second line, and now because of this I’m in debt to the tune of £2000 and got debt collectors threatening me with court. My partner passed away in 2021 and with all this now I just don’t know what to do or who to speak too. Everyone is blaming other people.

What was wrong with the DOB? Did you make yourself older or younger ?

But none of this will change that you owe them money. You wanted a contract and they allowed you too and to upgrade . So you wouldn’t be able to argue that you didn’t want it.

The DOB would have made me 30yrs younger. As I said I hold my hands up in regards to this error. I’m not disputing the fact that I’m due them the money, I have now accured debt because they wouldn’t help me out when I asked (due to the cost of living) and now they have put this to a debt collection agency

There are two choices. You either reach agreement with them on a payment plan or leave things as they are, risking debt collectors etc.
