Mixer shower leaking...

My shower is leaking from the shower head into the bath - not constant, but has been getting worse. How can I stop it?

the main mixer valve has seals inside. you need a service kit.
    fairly easy to diy.
you can get mira kits on the net from a company in cheltenham. sorry cannot remember the name for now.

Thanks - when you say the main mixer valve has seals inside, am I correct in thinking that where the shower is turned on and off, this will need taking apart to do this?

yes. the valve is where you turn it on/off and regulate the temp.
yes it needs to be stripped down, seals replaced and then reassembled.
not that difficult for the average diyer.

the kit contains about the half dozen seals required. take some care, the seals can be easily damaged.

I have done one of these on a mira 415, but instead of a kit I had to replace the main cartridge, which was about £45

for example, see above. gives you some idea of the job involved.
they are all slightly different but very similar.

be aware that replacing seals etc is no gaurantee of fixing the problem.
so you have to weigh up the pros and cons of doing the job and spending the money.
if the parts cost me say 50 quid, i would seriously consider a new mixer valve, ( ie off ebay for 50 quid). the time required to replace would be about the same for a repair.

That is a fair comment, but to replace a mira 415 is a couple of hundred quid normally.

You can get cheap mixers made in china, but it means that the pipework needs adjusting and I doubt if one of these cheap mixers will last long at all.

I think the Mira 415 lasted us about 12 years before it needed the cylinder replacing.

I bought a cheap tap once from ebay and had nothing but trouble with it.

I think thr shower has got to be in excess on 12 years. We've been in the house nearly 5 years and it does look a bit worn now.

I'm thinking now about replacing the shower full stop. The only problem is, is that it's a gold finish and these aren't cheap. The best price I've seen is over £200 on screw fix.

I would guess it's better to go down this road than spending money oin fixing it now...?

    It's an Aqualisa.

Gold - thermostatic. Turn the (like a dial) for on and off. there is also a separate plastic ring to turn for the temperature.
