need to see what sort of signal you get first where you are, there's no point going to (say) Vodafone (or a network that piggy backs onto Vodafone) if you can't get a Vodafone signal in the first place. :)

Try hotspotting off your phone 1st of all to see if everything works ok

Realistically you can, but you might have issues with online gaming (read about latency issues). We have run our house on 4G/5G for the past 3 years and we picked up 120mbps which was enough to run everything we needed.
We had endless trouble with the cheaper unlimited SIMs like smarty (it would disconnect constantly, not load pages, videos would just stop playing) and in the end had to shell out for EE which was capped at 600gb a month and was more expensive than fibre.

You need a decent 5G router as well and they can be expensive (we have the Deco X50 5G and its actually brilliant and then bought mesh units to move the signal around the house - circa £350), so you need to ask yourself why you would want to give up fibre to do this? I literally just got fibre in replacement of 5G as the lines have been installed now and it's 5x faster and cheaper than the unlimited SIM.

The only downside to 5G was when the weather was bad like storms etc then the signal was affected, and when the mast or network went down or was being repaired we were without internet. As a side note, do not get the same SIM for internet as you have in your phone as they will all go down together and you end up completely cut off with no way to contact anyone.

If you want 5g, and you're prepared to sign a contract - 3 seem best value including a router at the moment, if you can get their signal . Otherwise to buy a 5g unlocked router to use your preferred sim is still quite expensive - seems to be £150 + unless you're lucky enough to bag an ebay bargain, so you need to factor this in. Also, as above, check latency which will affect your gaming
  • I remember I had to do this without choice because my new flat had no decent broadband provider, the 5G sim routers are very expensive. I went with 4G and the download speeds were terrible.

Honestly your much better off with a wired broadband connection and with the number of devices you said your household has. Wireless will never be faster or be reliable as a wired connection.

Are you doing it for cost-savings? If your contract is finishing you could look around at some new broadband deals, usually they have good discounts for new customers.

You'll need to do several days of testing on 5G.

Any doubt or if you're not getting constant speeds of at least 150MBPs I'd avoid 5G totally with your needs (5 people and a lot of kit).

You can buy 2nd hand SIM routers or sign up to a monthly contract with the likes of Vodafone or 3.

Really, all that matters is that you test several times a day to see what you can get then bother about the other stuff.

I get 200MBPs 5G rock solid signal for 2 people and it's just the usual requirements but no gaming.

Keep Sky broadband while you're testing obviously.
