No contract sims ?

Is there a sim that I can use on my backup phone that I hardly ever use that the credit doesn't expire ?

I was surprised that last time I went to use it I found the provider had " stolen" all my credit , I'm not tech savvy so assumed my credit was mine, which used to be the case.

I think you usually have to make a call or send a text every so often to keep it active

Take the MSE route & just take the sim out of you main fone when needing to use the back up.

No, it costs them money to run and so they aren't going to allow it to sit unused indefinitely otherwise there would an ever growing book of customers that cost money and dont pay anything.

I use RWG mobile as backup. You can buy a SIM for £1 Inc. Credit.
    Runs on EE network.

    Pay-as-you-go

You can use our service on a simple pay-as-you basis. Just top-up your account and charges will de deducted as and when you use it. Your credit will never expire.

I'd check T&Cs for RWG mentioned above - the credit might not expire, but the sim number will unless used - often once every 30 days or similar

I believe it’s a chargeable call or text (or one that reduces your allowance) every 90 days.

After 90 days non usage the phone will be restricted to incoming only, a simple call will remove this restriction (if you can get through). However after a further 90 days the sim will be disconnected. My daughter has an emergency rwg sim and I text or call my phone from it every other month just to keep it alive. Been doing that for two years now.
