personal banking with the post office

My local post office refuses to accept coins when I pay into my personal bank account I understand that coins need to be bagged for business accounts but this is a personal account and the bank is on their “approved” list. for example If i want to credit my ccurrent account with £7.50 they will only accept the £5 note stating “we do not accept coinstheir website  clearly states"Make deposits with your card and PIN” Yet the staff point blank refuse to accept any coins . my banks local branch closed some time ago and the only option i have of paying money in is via the post office but they will not accept coins of any denomination. Any advice going forward would be greatly appreciated…..

Spend your coins on something else? Why are you accumulating so many that it’s become a problem?

Put them in one of those coin deposit machines in a supermarket or something.

You can pay coins in at the Post Office. However, any coin denomination less than the £1 have to be in full bags. IE- 50ps must be in bags of £10, 2ps must be in bags of £1 etc. You cannot pay £7.50 in as you would have an odd 50p in the mix.

£1 and £2 coins can be paid in any amount but they must be in bags and must be separate, you cannot mix them.

My local post office is based in the petrol station. Never tried to pay in coins but I doubt they have a coin counter so would require physical coin counting. I suspect they may refuse.

Banks weighed bagged coins. e.g They know how much a bag of £2 worth of 2p coins should weigh,

Indeed, but the one in my local Asda skims off about 20% for itself which does not accord with my MSE principles.

I don't bother with cash anymore but when I did I used to throw my handful of loose change into the chute of the self-service checkout. It accepted everything without complaint (except the occasional 5 cents) and gave full value.

I suspect though that people who expect employees to sift through their greasy unhygienic pocketful of pennies do not approve of self-service checkouts.

Were you actually trying to pay £7.50 into your bank account, or was that just an example?
If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales

Back in the last century (well it feels like an awfully long time ago)  I used to repair those machines.
