Santander Select

The free use of Santander ATMs worldwide used to be a Select/Private only benefit but was effectively extended to all Santander UK debit cards.
I investigated Edge and Edge up (for my old folks) but the cashback/interest was better with the legacy Select account plus the legacy Zero card effectively negates most of the FX benefits of the newer accounts along with S75 cover and use for hotels/ car rentals etc.

Nicer design - black and grey look better as I always think the red Santander card looks like a blood donor card.

the free use of Santander ATM abroad (avoiding local fees and conversion fees) wss linked to specific accounts, select/private and other fee paying accounts. As far as i know, it is still only apply to certain accounts, not all Santander UK debit card. For examples, the generic T&C for UK accounts mention free ATM use at Santander Spanish ATM but incurring the exchange fees “unless otherwise stated” (which would be stated in the specific Account T&C).

When you use your card abroad you may be charged a foreign currency conversion fee, unless you have one of the following accounts**:
Santander Edge® current account,
Santander Edge® Up current account,
Santander Edge® Explorer current account,
Private Current Account (v2)
The example clearly says that you will not be charged at a Santander ATM if you have one of the accounts above.
If you have another current account in our range (including the Select Current Account which is no longer available to open), you get fee-free withdrawals1 from Santander-branded cash machines abroad
1 Fee-free withdrawals. We'll waive the 2.95% foreign currency conversion fee when you use Santander branded cash machines in Germany, Spain, Portugal, Argentina, Chile, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Uruguay, USA, Brazil and Poland. Some cash machines may give you the option to transact in Sterling or the local currency; please select local currency to avoid being charged fees.
I have an Edge account that is also a Select account, but was never a Select Current Account. It is possible to have a Select Everyday Current Account.
