Suggestions for Easy Grow Flowers?

Options
Hi - having ME and not being a gardener - I don't have many flowers in my garden - only what 'just grows', like some honey suckle and an old tub of lilies.

However, I do like to take part in a local Show each August - but their Floral Art means you should use flowers you have grown - even though sometimes I get a few things from hedgerows.

Plannign ahead, I was wondering what I could buy/get that would happily flower around next August - but would maybe grow in the tub it was bought in and not need to be planted out etc.  I know years ago we did have lots of marrigolds.  I'm not fussy what they are, just something i can use for the various categories.

Dahlias could be good. Easy to handle if you have a pot and should be pristine if grown in a pot rather than ground.

I wonder about Fuchsias - their fairly hardy and tollerent of a certain amount of neglect.

Could you perhaps get someone to fill some bigger pots with compost for you so you can take them out of the tiny ones they come in. They are restricted to make them flower early.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

Violas are easy ans come in a variety of colours.

Geraniums are also easy to grow and can tolerate dry conditions.

Montbretia is a late summer flower. It does tend to take over, at least the wild version does. Maybe put a few corms at the end of the garden

If you can get someone to plant the corms, get the Lucifer variety, large, scarlet red whack you in the eye, and the seed pods after are also handy for a flower arranger.

And don't forget Teasel, loved by bees etc, striking plant on its own, great for flower arrangers, dried seed heads for Christmas decoration, and food for birds
Plus requires no care attention in the garden, it will sort itself out, and self seed if left alone

Both are in flower around now, weather & area depending of course

Cosmos.  Easy to grow from seed, and a wide variety of colours and sizes to choose from.

Dandelions and poppies - That's about the only flowers thriving in my garden at the moment.
Her courage will change the world.

Treasure the moments that you have. Savour them for as long as you can for they will never come back again.
  • Yes, we have loads of dandelions too - but they are all goen by now - sadly no poppies.

Welsh (yellow) poppies grow like weeds in our garden.  Very pretty, but not always in keeping with my chosen colour scheme!
