Onestream early termination fee before installation

I signed up with a Onestream FTTP package on the 27th of July. Shortly after I was told the installation would be delayed (no reason given) but that I'd receive an update on the 9th August. I didn't get one until today, so 2 days after the 14 day cooling off period ended. The update said that due to installation issues the installation will be reviewed again on 06/09/2024, so presumably activation could be much later. I called them today to cancel instead, but was told since I'm outside the 14 day cooling off period I'd have to pay the hefty early cancelling fee.

I suppose it's my own fault for assuming that the cooling off period only starts once the line is activated, but it does seem a bit ridiculous that they can charge me so much to cancel even though they haven't provided any service.

Is there anything I can do?
Thanks

  • Edit: never mind, just spoke to a different agent, and this one didn't mind cancelling without paying the fee. No idea why it was different this time.
