It's not rocket science just give your wife your rewards card to use for the trip.

I've never seen the term companion card before, hence my curiosity.

No, because if it is, when your wife/daughter phones you to tell you it's lost/stolen you freeze the card in your banking app, it's not rocket science

Even more simple complication, the shop asks for ID for the card which can happen when abroad.

Just not a wise move for so many reasons.
