Amazon Problems!

Hello, I hope somebody can help me.

I bought a phone from Amazon on the 18th July 2024 which I initiated a refund for on the 21st July.  I took the phone (which was still sealed) to my local Post Office on the 23rd July where they scanned the QR Code Amazon had given me and this shows as being delivered by Royal Mail on their tracking page on the 24th July.

Since starting this return with Amazon, the online status of the return has remained on the 'Return started, Your refund will be processed when we receive your item' status.
There is no mention of me dropping off the item at my Post Office although I have my proof of postage receipt here.  🤔

I have contacted Customer Service many times at Amazon only to be told every time that they will process my return once I send it to them and I need to do this by the 19th August before the return period closes.  But why hasn't any updated details of my return shown up in their system in the first place and how can I resolve this so I receive a refund as I feel like I am going round in a revolving door with Amazon at the moment?!  🤦‍♂️

Thanks in advance.

It might be worthwhile trying to contact them using one of the various methods listed here

Have you returned it to Amazon or a marketplace seller?
Amazon will often take their time with registering the delivery.
If it shows as delivered and it was to Amazon then it should refund eventually.

If you go to the order page, what does the return part say on the order details?

When you've contacted Amazon, have you just sent a message? The best results will be with speaking to someone or on live chat. On messaging it's usually just an AI fob off these days.

Amazon have their own language and way of doing things. The key is to find a contact route that finds someone human who you can show the tracking link to. If you can find a way on to live chat they usually give you an email address to send the link to and a screenshot.

  • Why oh why does anyone use this retailer. IMHO they are a total pain in the derriere only concerned with getting your hard-earned and useless when it comes to customer service.

I bought a phone from them which turned out to be unfit for purpose because it was locked to a US network and could not be unlocked - in the UK at least.

I spoke to customer services at Amazon, specified that I was buying a new phone from them because my old (waterproof - yeah, right) phone had come to a watery end, the bod I spoke with would only offer me a label to print myself or a QR code. I told him I needed a pre paid label as I could not take a code to be printed for a label or print a label myself. The guy must have been low IQ because I had to repeat this multiple times before the penny dropped, light went on and he agreed to send a label. When I asked why he had previously refused me a pre-printed label, he hung up.

Fast forward three weeks and I have a new phone and the label for me to print (which he sent me despite being told I couldn't print the *u!k*Ng thing) but still can't print it and the little darlings at Evri printshops can't print a label for me without a QR code.

I have therefore been trying to contact Amazon to get said QR code but chat just keeps saying a label has been issued and the customer service number keeps Re directing me to call back and for some reason does not recognize the obligatory code to be put through to an actual person and after two failed attempts, ends the call.

I used to be a prime subscriber and was signed up to a number of bolt on services but no more. I am going to close my account with Amazon as soon as I finally get my refund and encourage everybody who has problems with this gritting company to do likewise. Ultimately we used to be much better served by UK companies on the high street and it is the likes of Amazon that have caused so much destruction to our high streets - something which I lament and which I suspect many others will come to lament with me.

In the meantime, does anybody out there know how I can get a QR code from Amazon or speak with one of their customer services agents without going through the convoluted - computer say no - system?

People use this retailer because it’s easy and things don’t go wrong that often.  You are taking the stance that just because you had a problem with them then so does/must everyone else.

I live in a fairly rural area and the nearest big shops are 100/120 miles return so I buy nearly all of my non food items online.  I have bought 100s of products from Amazon Prime and as I have an account postage is free and has next day delivery.  The films are nice as well.

Out of those products I have only had two small problems. I bought an electric heated pad from a (usually) reliable manufacturer and it stopped working in just under a year. I contacted Amazon and they sent me a new one the following day.  This happened twice more  so Amazon refunded my money, that took 3 days.  I bought a different brand and it’s worked perfectly ever since.  So I got nearly 3 years use of a product for free

The second issue was that an item had not arrived.  The one and only time this happened to me.  Amazon refunded me immediately and apologised as they were out of stock so they couldn’t replace it.  After a short while one of my neighbours came round with my parcel.  She had been on holiday and it had been delivered there by mistake.  I asked Amazon if they wanted me to send it back but they told me to keep it.  That’s what I call good customer service.  The item had cost nearly £100

That looks to have been written at peak Amazon. They've been dipping in the last couple of years. They're never going to fall but, on the retail side, I can't see them growing any more. What most miss about Amazon is that the retail side is not where the bulk of their profit comes from. Amazon Web Services controls about a third of the internet, not just the Amazon bits.
