     Was this a connecting flight that you paid as a through fare from the uk?

    No a standalone flight booked directly with Bahamas air.
    In which case the flight isn't covered by UK or EU regulations but those of the USA and/or the Bahamas, plus any terms that the airline has.

    The US doesn't have an equivalent in my experience, basically they get you there when they can. One of the areas where they don't have a worse claims culture than the EU/UK, but then they use planes like buses.
