Flights to Australia - as cheap as possible ideally!

One tip for comfort is to book a flight with a long connection time in Singapore, then you can book the transit hotel and get a proper sleep in a private room rather than having to try to sleep on the plane. Ideal if you can get a flight that arrives early morning Singapore time as that'll feel like midnight, then the onward flight in the late afternoon/evening, as that'll feel like morning!
You can usually book a flight with a long eg 7-10 hour connection time and your bags will be checked through, you don't need to go through immigration and passport control for the transit hotel. Last time we did it it was around £100 for a room for 4 for 8 hours (you book it by the hour so a daytime booking is no problem).

Either way, too early to be booking flights. There'll be cheaper prices along the way, all things being equal.1 -

If you want to do it as cheaply as possibly I'm sure you could find a route with several stops via eastern Europe, one of the Stans and China but it's not going to be very pleasurable and it could take a few days plus the recovery time afterwards. Sometimes it is worth spending a little more for more comfort and less hassle.

Thanks all! Yes, there is definitely a balance between price and comfort! I'm not really looking at a multi stop trip, at the moment Singapore airlines seem to be the best value whilst still offering comfort and safety. We will be travelling between Sydney and Brisbane and it appears somewhat cheaper to fly to Sydney than Brisbane. Regarding accommodation, we are planning to hire a camper for our stay to give maximum flexibility and value 😀0

Also check the configuration of the aircraft you are booking. The BA A380's for example as like flying sardine cans and not a particularly comfortable journey for anyone tall or wide.0

I travel to Aus regularly for work and due to family living there.I’ve been various different routes but I would say that the cost saving for more changes, or different routes with longer connections just isn’t worth it when you consider how long a journey it already is- I once went via Frankfurt and Singapore to save some money and god it was long and painful. My preferred route is via Singapore but you can also go via Dubai or Doha. I usually fly with Singapore, Emirates, Qatar and they are equally as good. Qantas the best in my opinion but the most expensive.I use sky scanner to check all routes on my dates and then book direct with the airline.Debt free as of 2 October 2009
