John Lewis on the fiddle?

Options
A couple of months ago I bought my missus a new dressing gown in John Lewis, at the time it cost £30 a tad expensive I know but it's nice thick & warm. I was in there yesterday having a nose round & found they've "cut" the price to £45 for the sale.

Talk about trying to fleece the customers:eek:
Winnings :D

A lot of shops do that - just before Crimbo NEXT had jackets in the sale for £4, in the sale they were £7

Nothing new, not just JL, they all do it, put prices up just before Christmas, put them up again for the so called Sales, put them down February / March when the Credit card Bills land on the doormat.

What amazes me is that very few notice this scam.
  • That's why I like to get my xmas shopping done by 1st December at the latest. As a non christian I'm thinking of officially changing my "present giving day" to Jan 5th. Now that's money saving!! :j I could cut the cost in half! (Ratatouille DS game b4 xmas- £24. Afte- £12.99)
My mind not only wanders .......... sometimes it leaves completely
  • Items that show a reduced price in the sale, must have been on sale for at least 28 consecutive days during the six months before the sale, at the higher price. It does not need to have been on sale at the higher price at the same branch - just the same store. But if it was on sale at the higher price in a different store, I think they're supposed to state that. Which is why you sometimes see "previously on sale at our Birmingham branch" or something similar.

In theory, the dressing gown could have been on sale at £60 for 28 days at any time since July and then reduced to £45 for the sale.

If you know or suspect that a reduced price item was not previously on sale at the higher price, you should report it to Trading Standards.

In the Next clearance shops they often have big sales and cut the prices down to £2/3 and then all of a sudden the sale finishes and they put anything left back up!!

Bit naughty - JLewis have a good reputation, but legal, it seems. It's known as "price establishment" - always take previous price with pinch of salt.

Did you point this out to your missus?

If she didnt know that you only paid £30 it would have got you in to the good books :rotfl:
