  • as people have said above it seems common practice and just proves that shopping around (when possible) is always a good idea!

Noticed an advert on tv the other day for a sale, quoted the higher end prices as being onsale in 10 of the 140 stores, making it legal, made me wonder what prices they charged at the 130 stores.........

Have always thought highly of JL with their price match guarantee, but this Christmas have begun to doubt them. Bought an Ipod Nano for DD Xmas pressie from JL on line £129, less £20 Telegraph voucher - delivered in 2 days excellent so I thought. Went into local JL store (Peterborough) for something else and discovered same Ipod Nano selling for £119. They are still this price yesterday. Apparently not on local price match! Contacted JL direct Customer Services about price match, but they won't price match their own stores. Thought that this was an isolated example, but no. Parents wanted a Sony 15 inch LCD tv for their kitchen, JL price online £249, but £229 in local JL store. Again not a local price match, anyway Sainsburys currently selling it for £199.99. So got JL store to price match that and get the 5 year guarantee.
Moral, don't always think online is the cheapest or even the same as in the store - I for one will be watching JL prices more carefully in the future.

JL used to be one of the best stores for price and integrity, however this was about 5 years ago. Since then I've noticed a staggering drop in both their competitiveness and also their customer service.

I tried to buy a Wii from them in early 2007, both online and through a store, and customer services spun me a bunch of lies on numerous occasions.

Even worse they then started the despicable practice of 'scalping' when they started only selling Wii's with a bunch of excessive extras that nobody would want for a much inflated price. When I wrote a letter to CS to complain I received a rude reply telling me it was Nintendo forcing them. Whilst I knew this was a lie I couldn't prove it at the time, however if you read this story from Reuters you can see I wasn't wrong.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole these days.

i noticed that boots were selling a perfume set reduced from £32 to £22 in town, yet at one of the shopping outlets out of town, the same set was reduced from £36 to £32. Whats that all about?

Woolworth had the boxset Alien going for £18 before Christmas, then it went up to £28 in the sale!

DP once had tops for £6 each. The following day they had a so called massive sale on - the tops had gone up to £9 each but they were selling at 3 for 2

Don's suppose there's any such thing as a sale really, it just makes you realize how much they're ripping us off

Agreed, but sadly there are millions sucked in by all of the hype.

Best bet is to wait until February/March when all of the Credit Card bills land on the door mats, then retailers start to sell at sensible money.;)

BTW it certainly isn't just John Lewis.
