Buying hard drive from Amazon - need password??

Options
I've just ordered a hard drive from Amazon due tomorrow on Prime & before I selected buy now it said I'll need a password/OTP or will need to supply someone taking delivery with this password/OTP.

I had a look & saw nothing so thought it'd show itself once I place this order .... except it didn't. I don't see it in my order history & no email mentions any password/OTP.

So how am I supposed to acquire this so that I can receive my hard drive?

And out of interest, if I'm not at home to receive it, how do I supply someone else with it? Because if it's the driver that issues it then that's a bit poor - as these guys race around all day long & don't care whether they deliver to the correct address or not (as said to me by an Amazon driver) so if they're to issue me it & then I've to then send it on to the person receiving it (assuming I notice the notification at the time) ... it's all just a bit poorly organised.

It's very simple. On the day of delivery Amazon will send you an email with the OTP.

You get a text message with it.
Or at least I did when required.

I got a hard drive from amazon a couple of months back with the same thing.   The password/code came on the dispatch email.   It was quite straight forward, when he delivered it, I gave him the code, he put it in his device and went on his way.    I was quite happy how it was organised and it worked well.    When I ordered it they gave me the delivery date so I just made sure I was in.

Maybe you could have got it delivered to a locker instead?

I understand the process of receiving a code & providing that code is simple.

However it never said at which point it would be received - which meant I just had to assume (or ask others).

I could've & would've. Unfortunately I go in to town (where the locker is) in the morning. Amazon seem to not deliver to the locker until tea time & I don't fancy going back in to town on a day which is already ridiculously busy for me - which is why I selected my home address since I'll be here. I was talking earlier about not being here more from a 'what if' than me actually not being here.

    Anyway, thanks for the replies.

Amazon can't win really can they, they bring in a process like this to try to stop unscrupulous third parties claiming expensive items, and people still moan about it.

I'd say more like I can't win actually.

Make a post, people ignore where I'm coming from with the post & make their own decision on it even though it's right there in black & white.

Then you're marked as moaning again & it's like - actually did you even bother to read? I'm trying to get the answer to a question yet you think this is just a rant & nothing else.

Love how people like to tell me what I mean & where I was coming from when it's me who's making the post.

Yes at the end I said it's poorly organised - because I've never had this before so didn't know the process. I expected the code on purchase or at least some kind of message on purchase to say when the code would come but neither happened. I think it's a pretty valid point although I've already said that & it seems to have been ignored.

When I add a product to the basket it tells me that a code will be needed which is supplied on despatch. Is that not what you are seeing?
  • Did you get your code and your hard drive?

You do need to click on "Learn more" to tell code is sent on delivery day. It would be better if it stated that without the need to click on a link.
