The prices are so different today aren't they :) I am of the age when I look at the price of something and still convert it back to pre-decimal prices so a second class stamp to me converts back to 17/- 17 shillings !  and a daily paper to £1.2s 00. or 22 shillings :) certainly makes me think twice about if it value for money as I think for 22 shillings I can make a meal .
I rarely buy a newspaper anymore .Especially as I have no longer got an open fire that I can turn it into a fire lighter with. Everything back then was if possible recycled and reused.

Today although I do own and run a car I do try to use the bus more as I live about a hundred yards from a bus stop and the buses are every half an hour into town plus of course at my age I have a bus pass so costs me zero and keeps the cars off the road and I only use it about once a week for a big shop, apart from that to go into town for the Dentists, Drs or library its a bus for me or if the weather is nice I'm happy to walk down into Ryde and get a bus back

What shocked me was the price of a packet of Polo mints, for years they were 2d and excellent value but now they are a pound  ! ! ! ! seems more than a bit excessive

Depressing as it is, I'm another one who often converts prices back to pre-decimal.  I can remember at the time of the crossover the Government of the day was urging people not to do this  - I wonder why?   :*

Polo mints are DH's sweet treats that I get from Sainsbugs - 80p per packet or £1.75 for a pack of 4 (same size and weight) and around £1.50 when on offer.  Guess which I buy?   :D

Different country but I remember buying a chocolate bar for 10 cents or one of the really big bars for 25 cents.  So that's 6p for something that now costs about 80p and 15p for the ones that cost £2!!  And both size bars are smaller than they used to be!!

As for petrol at £1 a litre - all the fuss about how were they going to put that on the signs as there was only the option to go to 99p!!
I remember when a large hershey bar was 5cents--i was about 6 years old then...and a glass bottle of coke was 10cents (US).  Now both are well over $1USD
