Handy table here of petrol prices. I remember it being under 50p for years in the early 90s

I recall it was 15 shillings and 6 pence a GALLON at the Garage my Mum worked in (National Benzol) some time around the mid 60s.  Proper leaded petrol back then ;) .

I pre-ordered and paid the full price for The Beatles Abbey Road album at 30 shillings and sixpence in 1969.  It was soon available for less in all the shops.

Pint of bitter was half a crown (2s and 6d) in the Lounge bar (2d cheaper in the Public) and that became 12.5 new pence in 1971.

Different country but I remember buying a chocolate bar for 10 cents or one of the really big bars for 25 cents.  So that's 6p for something that now costs about 80p and 15p for the ones that cost £2!!  And both size bars are smaller than they used to be!!

As for petrol at £1 a litre - all the fuss about how were they going to put that on the signs as there was only the option to go to 99p!!

I remember my Dad buying petrol at 5 shillings & 11d a gallon late 50s/early 60s.  I could be wrong but I think that is the equivalent in present currency of about 6.6p/litre.  WOW!  I am not just old but almost antique!

The fuel shortages & blockades were in 2000, it didn't hit £1/l until after 2006, the first time I paid that was after moving to Blackpool.
