What's the ultimate punishment for a speeding ticket?

(or not?) But I assume that means that the individual is responsible then for payment without trying to make any excuses about what they didn't do and why and who was actually speeding. I'll check to see if they still have their driving license and perhaps suggest it be cancelled if their not actually going to ever use it.
FYI - I've talked to the enforcement officer and they will be satisfied with payment in full today otherwise will book the individual for a court hearing at some future date (which I assume might mean more ££ to pay?) and then the magistrate can review the situation and agree a payment plan if they think that suitable.
(If their friend has already asked the OP to help with this I'm sure their permission would be taken as implied anyway...)0 -
@Car_54 - thanks for the detailed answer. I think we're way past doing a SD and the enforcement officer is going to arrange a court date for the individual. Meanwhile I've had a difficult conversation about who's noted as the main driver on the policy as the son admits that he drives for the most part and is somewhat insisting it's fine as he's a named driver on the policy. It was difficult to explain adequately over the phone when he was in a state of panic about expecting someone in the house to be arrested. I'm seeing him next week and we'll go over things again. I used to work at a company dealing with motor insurance so am well aware of the consequences.
I've also suggested he run a credit check to see if there's anything else his parent is holding back about debts. I'll talk to the parent as well just in case there's things that they might tell me that the son doesn't know.
Frankly it's a family who has been in a fragile situation for a few years so I expect there are secrets being kept to protect others without thinking of the consequences.
Thanks again to all for the support - very good to help me think things through.
@Okell I've been too long working in jobs where it's banged into your head....data protection, data protection, data protection. So no not checking up with the DVLA. But yes at 80 they still have a licence. People do like to hold on to these things even when not being used. Just in case. (for my mom at 93 the just in case was if she ran out of gin!!)
