debt charities want you to start repaying instantly cos they are subsidised by the creditors.
    it's their motive.

forget bailiffs that's folk that don't pay income tax council tax even after a ccj and still ignore and still refuse etc, that's sensationalism you see on TV and it's edited for drama

there is a stickie at the top of the debt free wannabe forum where you can ask a step change rep a question.
your question is common , should I default then repay or start paying now.

the rep says choose either, but we advise save up money by not paying, then default, then interest stops completely for ever.
then repay what you can afford

Default notices have standard wording and I don't think has changed for years. It's not worth reading it or trying to understand it. Just think Oh good, a default notice, and file it.

There's lots of misleading info on the internet from businesses that want to scare you into becoming a customer.

The default takes both sides out of the contract and so they can accept a smaller payment, or sell it on.

Thank you- it kind of sounds almost too “easy”! If the creditor doesnt default the debt after a few months can you ask them to? Amy

you can ask, but they have to be fair and not pushy with you and give you time, that's why they say please pay something to us asap.
even a little amount, pretty please

you can ignore them and speed up the default process
the fastest default I've had is 2 months and slowest a year

Creditors are now “obliged “ to show that they are willing to help customers. That’s why defaults may take quite a few months. The positive thing is until they default you, you can save all the money that you were willing to pay them into your emergency fund.

like I said all this bailiffs on TV  and such are for folk like Katie Price that didn't  pay her income tax

she went into an IVA , which she failed to pay, she had bankruptcy hearings which she ignored, so court took her house, mucky mansion and her cars with bailiffs

she has to pay 40% of her only fans website income now for three years

I had a creditor slow to default me, I called them and asked, the rep said yes, I will do a manual default for you.
it never happened, 5 months later, they made contact with me, I had paid them nowt, I wrote back in email saying hey you promised to default me.
they said sorry, they will now have to send the standard 2 letters warning me of a default to come, but they said it would be backdated to the time the rep said they would do a manual default for me when I requested it
