As for new shoes making you run faster - I was sent a marketing email by a brand of running shoes a fortnight ahead of the London Marathon with a "PB guarantee". I have no idea how such a guarantee can be proven or claimed against. I did read the small print a bit and it said it had to be marathon distance in a proper event and you had to have a previous time set at a proper event. The shoes were £300-odd so, maybe they just know that if you spend that much on running shoes, you are pretty serious and you are quite likely to gain a PB with or without the shoes.1 -

(Actually I may have lied about shoes not making you quicker. I bought the first version of the Asics Glideride a few years ago and I think they did make me run quicker.)0
