TUI Package Child Holiday Prices

I priced up a all inclusive holiday for 2A and 2C aged 9 and 13.  On the quote I incorrectly put my eldest at 12, but when I changed this to 13 the holiday went up by £300.  Also we wanted to select a different flight and the upgrade price (when her age was incorrect) was 48p each, but when this was corrected it increased the cost for all of us to £6.50 each.

TUI told me its right but could not give me an explanation.

Anyone else had this and made a successful complaint?  My 13 year old daughter would eat less than a typical 12 year old boy, this just seems unfair to call them children yet have these incremental price increases and also increase flight supplements for all four of us

I can't speak from any personal experience but I'd refer them to their FAQ at https://www.tui.co.uk/destinations/info/travelling-with-infants-children

What are the age ranges that TUI class as 'infant' and 'child'?

When booking a TUI package holiday, young passengers are classed as follows:

(*) Infants: Under 2 years old on the return date of travel. If your child celebrates his or her 2nd birthday while on holiday, you must book and pay the appropriate child fare. (*) Children: 2 to 16 years old on return date of travel.

which clearly doesn't envisage any distinction between 12 and 13 year olds!

I suppose there may be hotel- or airline-specific pricing policies that come into play though?

Going back several years to when our son still came with us on TUI packages - if memory serves 13 was the age when child prices no longer applied.
That may have changed since then of course.
Easy way to find out is to call a TUI store and speak to a member of staff.

Child age limit may be lower at some resorts and may not be a TUI decision, especially if all inclusive or are heavily promoted for family holidays with childrens clubs and activites where there is a cut off of 12.

Very similar to cruises where there are maximum numbers of children at different ages permitted.

Just found this on their A-Z Guide.
    "Age Ranges
No under-18s can travel on their own. For USA and cruises that include a port of call in the USA, including the US Virgin Islands, the minimum age to travel alone will be 21 and over. For our hotels and cruises, 2 to 12-year-olds are classed as children, unless we say otherwise. Infants under 6 months old aren’t permitted to travel on our cruises."

Thanks all - TUI have advised me that the Hotel in question class anyone over 13 as an adult, although they cant show me where on their site or the hotel site that is documented.  Ive raised a complaint, but not sure I will get anywhere.

Are they not quoting their A-Z guide conditions ?
Out of curiosity - what hotel ?
If it allows you to book direct online then that'll indicate the child price age.

To be fair, TUI aren't just trying to get £300 more out of you for the craic. They've given you an explanation as to why there is a different charge for 12 and 13 year olds.
  • I can't see how TUI are at fault - the customer initially entered a wrong age at the booking stage and got a child price, once amended the system produced the correct costs.

Good luck! That situation seems really unfair. We had a cancellation with aaa travel before, and we never had any issues getting a refund. It’s frustrating when things don’t go as smoothly as they should. Hopefully, your situation gets resolved quickly.
