So they are charging £4.2k to install a £720 boiler? At least £3k labour. Should easily be able to do that in a day. You could probably have your current boiler repaired if there was a plumber available, who isn't obsessed with fitting new boilers for the big money.
What planet are you on? Gravity hot water system to a combi in a day???
    Really?

Even if they were really slow and took 2 days it would be over £1500 a day. £390k a year if you could fit new boilers every day.

It would be a new Combi system. So removal of tanks in loft and hot water tank. Redirection of lots of pipework, new pipework,  including mains supply etc
However £3.2K would look more reasonable all the same.

Both prices, whilst not criminally so, do seem to be on the highish side.
I'm sure Blackbird will shop around.
Blackbird, you say you prefer a combi? Why is this?

So you’re saying minus the cost of the boiler there is NO other things that need to be bought/paid for?

No if you care to do the maths it leaves £480 for other things.

Sounds like you've found your new job then.  £390k a year for little effort at all.

Let us know how it goes.

I recently changed my central heating system when the old Baxi back boiler packed in after well over 30 years loyal service.  I got a Viessman combi boiler but it has a little water tank attached to it.  This boiler went in my airing cupboard and it's a large !!!!!! so now I have lost my cupboard! With taking out the old boiler, attached gas fire, water tanks, rads etc, any capping off and installing new it was about a weeks work. I've just got a shower tap over the bath and pressure and hot water are fine for me. It was about £6k all in but that also included plumbing and moving gas pipes etc for new kitchen

given that it seems like the main part of the build is the installation cost would it be better choosing a slightly better quality boiler than the Alpha

does anybody have any suggestions about what could replace it ?

I think that is a good point. It may only increase the overall price by a few hundred Pounds at most, and you probably will end up with a longer warranty as well.
Everybody seems to have a different opinion about the best make, but the ones you hear mentioned on here the most are ; Worcester Bosch; Viessman; Baxi ; Vaillant; Ideal ( probably forgot a couple)
