I see your point but that couldn't happen in my case. If booking.com refund me through PayPal (they stated that the refund would be done through the original payment method), it would register on PayPal as refunded, and as a consequence, the dispute case would close - job done.
I can't understand what logical reason they have0 -
I just received an email for gotogate (first time I was made aware this company is involved). They are claiming no money went from my account into theirs. lol0

Can see your frustration but your only option now is to wait for Paypal Dispute to follow it's course. You may be able to upload a copy of the latest email from from gotogate into your Paypal case.0 -

They present it as convenient, but all it does is make it harder for your to get your money back. Scam is the correct description.0 -

I'm not necessarily defending PayPal and I'm sure it has its share of flaws, but to suggest that the entire raison d'etre of a global payment solution is to deprive consumers of certain rights that they'd have with some other forms of payment is clearly nonsense - by your peculiar definition, cash would also be a scam....
Having said that, if you want to try to make a serious point, you might wish to present some reliable stats about the comparative costs to businesses of accepting payments via the different channels? Each method will of course entail transaction costs plus those associated with subsequent recoveries from dispute processes, etc - it would surprise me if it actually was any cheaper to accept PayPal than other methods, but even if that was the case it still wouldn't actually support the absurd accusation of the entire scheme being a scam!
P.S. Apologies to OP for this veering off topic, but it just seemed that a patently daft assertion ought to be challenged.1 -
🤔
Anyway, I for one will not be using either in the future.0
