Purple Bricks' Lifetime Guarantee

If this was an assets sale, and the contracts have not been transferred over, then the offer of six months might actually be reasonable.
However, I would guess that the most important asset of Purple Bricks that Strike obtained was the name. If that is the case, then they probably don't want a whole lot of bad publicity besmirching their name. And hence @Abermale's suggestion is probably worth a go. Good companies will want to preserve their name. But, it might be the case that the current company has no legal obligation to do anything at all. In which case the offer of six months may be reasonable.0 -
How did you pay? If by credit card the CC company is jointly liable, so it may be worth contacting them.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. My problem with PB is not quite in line with others posted, but I'm new to this forum and would welcome advice.
I engaged PB to sell a house in March 23 - not knowing of the imminent sale to Strike.
They failed to sell and after the required 11 months, I paid their fee of around £ 2000, and put the house with a local agent, who sold it in September.
I have today received a demand for £8,247.00, because apparently they 'introduced' the eventual buyer to the property!
I'm at a loss as to how this could have been avoided or could be relevant!
Any advice would be very welcome, but I , like most of you, would say 'Don't go within a million miles of this company!'

This is such a complex question, it's probably better to start a new thread and ask it again.
Otherwise it will end up with a muddle of comments about your situation and Peachannon's situation.

Hi
We have similar issue with Purplebricks, given 6 months to sell else we loose our payment of £2800plus. The main reason to choose Purplebricks was no fixed time period to sell and we can stay in the adverts until the property is sold without any time restrictions. Now they are arguing no such agreements like this and I have not provided with any signed contracts or no proof of this lifetime sale period. It was clearly covered by sales representative and management team
How to solve this issue? Anyone won against them?1 -
I took out the same agreement in 2022 and was totally unaware that the company was in trouble. In fact, I do remember seeing something somewhere and I asked Purplebricks the direct question about liquidation and they said everything was fine. We decided not to sell in the end, after they kept reducing the price (eventually by a whopping £150k) to the point where we wouldn't have been able to buy a new property that was any better. However, it was our understanding that, were we to decide to sell at any point, ever, that this was already paid for. Of course, the terms and conditions are online. All I have is an online invoice for payment. I am certain that both the Terms and the invoice have been edited within my account, though of course I can't prove it. I'm hoping that someone had the good sense to print these things out back then and that perhaps I might take a look at them so I can attempt to take them on over this. I paid £1600, they did practically nothing (we had 2 viewings), I asked for my money back I was so disappointed with their service - to no avail. TBH I don't want them to sell my house, I just want my money back so that when I do decide to sell I haven't paid twice.0

You need to look back through your initial agreement with PB regarding the terms, if it was a buyer that they had initially introduce to the property then they may have a claim to their fees. However I'm sensing a bit of contradiction from them, if they are stating the terms of the lifetime guarantee were with the previous owners of PB then surely the terms of your previous agreement are null and void as well?!jellyslice said:My problem with PB is not quite in line with others posted, but I'm new to this forum and would welcome advice.

I am aware this is such an old post, but I am in the same position. Paid £1000.00 for a lifetime sale in 2021. Sale fell through, we decide to take a short break from the market, but due to redundancy, illness and other life events we only wanted to reinstruct in Jan this year. We've done lots of work and so wanted new photos and a floor plan, we fully expected to pay for this, but PB wanted us to pay the full fee again which is just ludicrous. Spent 3 months waiting for a complaint response and have just issued via smalls claims. I have an email from them which states:
Please do be advised that you are welcome to return to the market at no extra cost at anytime in the future.
PB still refuse to accept this!
