I have had terrible heartburn in all my pregnancies. I really don't like taking medicines unless absolutely neccessary though, so I just drink ice cold milk and it does help. Also avoid spicy and acidic foods and sleep with plenty of pillows to prop you up.

go back to your GP. it may not be heartburn. i suffered with what i thought was heartburn during my pregnancy, and drank bottles of gaviscon. however, one day the pain got so bad, OH took me into the antenal ward, as the gaviscon wasnt working. turns out i had HELPP syndrome. i wont go into details here, but any complaint in pregnancy needs to be double checked. id already been into hospital twice the previous week with heartburn type symptoms, and given gaviscon and sent home. thankfully the third time we went in, we got a midwife, who thought to run more checks, otherwise me and bubs wouldnt be here now
really, just to be safe, you need to get this checked out. constant heartburn in the third trimester is not normal. yes, heartburn, from eating and laying down is normal, but anything more than that, should be double checked

A tiny drop of peppermint essence in cooled boiled water can sometimes help

I have found the best cure for heartburn is to drink loads of water- when you feel it starting, drink about 1/2 pint water (not too cold) and this flushes the acid through.0
