Dylanwing likes to blame everyone but themselves for causing problems like this
Exel, you miss more points than Derby County!:p I do advocate personal responsibility, but I also advocate Corporate responsibility. The alarm bells have been ringing for years about personal debt, and yet the Banks have continued to lend recklessly (And yes, individuals have borrowed recklessly). It has now come to a head, mainly because the Banks have bought a pile of cleverly disguised rubbish debt, and broken well-established practices, as they chased ever larger profits.
I have been in bad financial shape, and it is not pleasant (My own fault btw). In that position, you do realise your mistakes and don't need people telling you that you have been stupid. You need practical help, support, and most importantly, somebody to advise what your rights are, as Banks love to threaten you with bailiffs at every opportunity... Well unless you demand all communications in writing.
My sympathies are with the families torn apart by debt problems. With the family and friends of the people driven to suicide due to Bank harrassment. And after each suicide, a lying Bank weasel appears on TV/ radio claiming that their Bank is so helpful and sympathetic and really want to help customers in trouble.
Sorry to go on a bit. I know that we will continue disagreeing, but that is the fun of this Forum. It would be dull if we all all agreed the whole time.

................rather those who don't pay their debts, because without them these companies wouldn't exisit !
Excuse me, I have always paid my debts and have always been very careful with my money. If you read my post again, carefully, I do not owe barclycard a penny, Neither do I owe anyone else. The Barclaycard I had was paid off 20 years ago. SO PLEASE TELL ME WHY THEY ARE CHASING A DEBT THAT IS CLEARLY NOT MINE? I AM NOT IN DEBT AND NEVER HAVE BEEN. I ALWAYS PAY MY BILLS IN CASH, AND KNOW EXACTLY WHERE I AM >WHOOPS I LIED ! I HAVE A MORTGAGE. (BUT ONLY 8 YEARS TO GO AND PROUD OF IT HA HA !) Are you going to judge me for that too and say because I am in debt to the mortgage company it serves me right? I THOUGHT THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A SUPPORTIVE AND NON JUDGMENTAL FORUM? Please excuse me, I have to go.
I am just in the middle of applying for a bank loan, a cheque book, a visa card, a store card and some catalogue that I have no intention of paying.

To all who have been supportive - Thankyou! Just an update, remember me?(I posted a mesage re debt company asking for payment on a barclaycard I don't have) > Well today I switched my house insurance, saving £15 a month. Even better, I switched my mortgage saving £20 a month. Even better than that, TO THOSE WHO DOUBT ME FOR NOT PAYING MY DEBTS, the mortgage lender did a credit check on me before the mortgage was switched and guess what? Yes it was clear
  • Tony, the debt they are chasing won't show up on your credit reference file. If they could take you to court, they would have done it by now (the threats are just hot air trying to scare people into paying). If you'd already been taken to court, they'd be going for enforcement, not threatening you with court action. They can't add it to your credit reference file as it is too old.
