DWP and HMRC - how long to wait?

To update on this, I called DWP to let them know I'd repaid the pension over-payment and asked if they could confirm whether she was in receipt of any other benefits. They told me that they don't know if she was on any other benefits and their system won't tell them. They said this would be down to me to check the bank statements. Seems very odd that the DWP's system doesn't say if someone gets benefits, but hey.
In any case I'd already checked the statements and I can't seen anything except the monthly pension payments, which is a fair bit over the standard amount. I told them this, but they said they can't see what that amount was made up of. They just said that if there was an investigation they'd have told me by now, so I shouldn't need to worry. I asked for confirmation in writing, but they said no.
I got a letter in the post today to say that IF there was going to be an investigation, they'd write to let me know at some point. No indication about how long to wait or whether they'll tell me if there's nothing. It seems like a rubbish system to me. I might write to them to let them know I will wait for six months and then distribute. That probably doesn't cover me, but I don't know what else to do.
I then spoke to HMRC to ask them to confirm whether I could assume there was nothing owed to them as their letter said that they'd write to me within 8 weeks if there was, and I'd heard nothing at 10 weeks. They said that there was money owed, but they don't know how much yet. If that's the case they really should amend their letter, or write again to inform you. It looks chaotic and incompetent to me.0 -
I can't think that there would be any DWP overpayments other than the two weeks state pension, which you have repaid.
DWP computer systems don't interact well with each other !
HMRC will probably wait until the end of the tax year. My husband died three weeks into last tax year., at then end of April 2023. In July this year I got an unexpected tax refund!0
