Gas or electric company recommendations with no smart meter
Hello can anyone recommend an energy (gas and electric) company that wont be pestering me for a smart meter every two weeks. I would obviously want to move onto a very good tariff as well.
I've already told my company e.on that i don't want one but they just don't seem to want to take no for an answer. I'm on their variable rate but all their fixed rate tariffs which seem better seem to require that you install a smart meter

If you want the best tariffs you'll need to be on a smart meter and frankly for the vast majority of people it makes life much easier. No readings to submit is great!!
In the end you won't have a choice as it's their equipment and if they think it needs to be changed all you can do is find a convenient time to have the installation.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe and Old Style Money Saving boards. They are all required to fit smart meters. The law entitles them to.
And, as you have noticed, the good tariffs need them too.1 -

God help us i2 -

On a totally different level there's the data that the smart meters provide regarding usage. What power generation is required when and where. Electricity and gas don't simply arrive at a flick of a switch.0 -

You can still read the meter yourself if you want to, nobody will stop you. Seems an unnecessary way to demonstrate your industriousness though.1 -
I dont have a smart meter at pres so am on EDF,s Varible tariff but have been looking at Octopus .
Perhaps give Octopus a call the number comes up via google and ask if switching requires a smart meter ?....you could say yes you may want one in the future but certainly not right now so is switching possible ?
They want you as a customer as they want market share ie your money so who knows ?
Forum advice can often be opinionated, completely wrong or negative so I would phone them to confirm myself .
It doesnt bother me much if EDF text/phone or email me regarding a new meter or a smart meter .
If you compare it to unregulated private parking scammers ,the linked scamalicitors and debt collector monkeys sending threatograms for up to 6 years...... then the energy companys are as tame as a family cat .
If you do switch I think you can get a £50 incentive too if you search the net0 -

There must be somewhere hidden in your account settings that you can turn off being contacted about smart meters - but only for being offered one. When your electricity meter nears the end of its certification period they have to contact you to change it, it's a legal obligation to make sure the meter on their supply for your property is within its certification period.1 -

I was on the Next Pledge tariff with Eon Next before I got a smart meter. I don't think I had to agree to getting a smart meter installed to be on that tariff, I just wanted one so I could get an EV. I still record my meter readings once a month, although I no longer need to supply them to Eon Next. But with the smart meter I can now also download my usage data for every half hour.Tumtitums said:It amazes me how lazy society has become in so many ways now it seems that people cant spare less than 2minutes to note down a number on a meter once a month.
