Hi,
I'll be in my home during the winter 6 months then remote travelling through England for the summer 6 months.
I need internet on my MacBook for TV streaming, laptop for work (only downloading Excel data so nothing big) & my mobile phone.
Is there a reasonably priced internet option for this situation? I have no idea where to start.
Thanks!

Mobile internet tethered to your phone?
    Mobile internet router.

What exactly are you wanting to use the internet for & on what devices?

Good questions, I need internet on my MacBook for TV streaming, laptop for work (only downloading Excel data so nothing big) & my mobile phone. Will edit my OP. Thank you!
  • I hotspot my phone to my laptop if needed.

Watching videos can eat up the data so a decent allowance would be required.
Things that are differerent: draw & drawer, brought & bought, loose & lose, dose & does, payed & paid

I’m looking at this for myself at the moment.

I’m looking at buying a Mifi router (search mifi on Amazon or mifi device on Google) and a data only SIM from someone like Lebrara or Smarty. As you will be streaming tv you may want to look for an unlimited data package.   I’m finding this is cheaper than adding data to my mobile phone package as I’m in a contract and only have a small amount of data currently.

Some do allow you to roll over unused data.

    That's really helpful, thank you!
Do you think it's possible to take the SIM to & from my house so it goes where I go? Or will I need 2? I really don't want to give money to one of the big companies for the 6months I won't be in the house! The logistics is boggling my tiny brain! :D

Yea, you can take the SIM with you. What you can't guarantee is the your network will have coverage at every location you go to

You should be able to use 1 sim but could depend on network coverage for where you live and where you are going..

Another option is to look for a 1 month contract rather than 12 months so that you only pay when you need it.  Also easier to change network if you are not happy with strength of signal.

Thank you! that's so helpful! I'm going to be on a boat during the summer, which will be on the move, then in the winter I'll be going from my house back to the boat occasionally. In my head, taking a SIM from one place to the other seems like a logical option, I just need to figure out how to do it. I assume I'd need a router in both locations? You can probably tell this isn't my area!

You can buy a MiFi which is a mini router that takes a SIM card, but it may not work too well when away from land. You can buy 5G routers, much like a home broadband router which would have a better range, but still may struggle on a boat if away from land. Something commercial may be best.

Not so much of an issue if you are mainly moored up or on a river boat. In which case a home solution may work.

You may want to look at some of the more yachting focussed equipment if you are going to be further off shore.

Brilliant! Thank you! I'll be on the inland waterways so I'm hoping 5G will do it. Much appreciated.
