car insurance registerd keeper?

hi i had my car insurance last year with endsleigh it was £800 and now this year they want £800 again even though i have 1 yr ncb.
The name on the V5 document is my dads name and endsleigh gave me the option of selecting the box taht said registerd keeper is parent.
Ive got quotes from direct line and virgin for about 600 and it has no mention of asking who is the registerd keeper on the V5.
Does it matter? Can i insure the car even though the V5 is in my dads name with these insurers? Im the only driver of the car.
thanks

Every time I've ever had a quote (online or on the phone) I'm always asked who the registered keeper is.
I suspect the 2 companies you mention will have in their small print that it is an assumption that the proposer is the registered keeper.
I'm not sure what difference it makes to the policy - it may be that their attitude is that if you don't own the car you are less likely to be sensible with it and therefore a higher risk. Just a guess though.

direct line and virgin insurance assumes that the policy holder is the registered keeper or the spouse/partner is the registered keeper (i work for rbs insurance group) as does churchill, tesco, pru etc unless you tell them otherwise
you should tell them over the phone that you are not the registered keeper , as it can cause problems if you make a claim and the car is written off as they will ask for the registration docs.MFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -
To insure the vehicle you should be the registered keeper, owner and main user!
How can someone else insure your car? you are the person with the insurable interest.
And if you have done it in this way for cheaper insurance - insurance companies will refuse to pay out on any claim made. As i said on another thread, its a very expensive piece of paper.0 -

.
not necessarily true, as
1. you can be insured and have an insurable interest if the registered keeper is your legal spouse/partner
2. you can get insured on a policy in your name, even if the vehicle is in your works company name (dependant on insurance company etc)
3. you can get insurance on a vehicle in your name if you lease hire the vehicle from a company (again dependant on insurance company agreeing to this,)
4. some insurers will allow a different registered keeper, ie i was a policy holder, my father named driver and my dad was the registered keeper, the insurer new this and insured us on that terms (and my certificate of insurance proved they were aware, the reason my dad was registered keeper was that i bought the vehicle before i was 21 and at the time vauxhall would not give 0% finance to under 21's so my dad had the finance in his name, and paid from his account, i just paid him a few days before the payment was due each month)
the insurers new i was the policy holder, the main driver and the car was not in my name (but in my fathers name, who was a named driver on the policy) and they were happy to take this onMFW#105 - 2015 Overpaid £8095 / 2016 Overpaid £6983.24 / 2017 Overpaid £3583.12 / 2018 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2019 Overpaid £2583.12 / 2020 Overpaid £2583.12/ 2021 overpaid £1506.82 /2022 Overpaid £2975.28 / 2023 Overpaid £2677.30 / 2024 Overpaid £2173.61 Total OP since mortgage started in 2015 = £37,286.86 2025 MFW target £1700, payments to date at April 2025 - £1712.07..0 -

Im talking about their situation - i know all of the above. the registered keeper doesnt prove ownership of a vehicle as we all know! but apart from the above exceptions what i have said is the case! Im not going to write an essay to show my full understanding lol.0 -

If that's true how come I am able to get a quote on a car that my hubby is the registered owner and keeper of? The policy was going to be in my name, with him as a named driver but he is the registered owner and keeper.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. Whoa jeanette!
Whilst I'm sure there are many people who have been helped by some of your information/answers (:kisses3:) it doesn't mean that you should assume that we all now know all there is to know!:p
Most of us DON'T know hence our posts/threads and some of us are merely pointing out observations based on our experiences. A little slack wouldn't go amiss on occasion!0 -
