I'm in need of some inspiration. I'm off to a fancy dress party on New Years Eve, its no set theme but I just cant think of what to go as.
I've been to a couple of fancy dress shops today but they were really expensive and a bit tatty to be honest.
can anyone help with ideas on cheap to make/buy costumes for a woman.
Thanks for any help!!!

Go as a punk - spike your hair, wear fishnet tights and high heels or boots, make a dress from a black binliner, pile on the makeup.0

Great idea Sola.
For authentic punk, slash an old t-shirt and graffiti it a bit. Add loads of safety pins and if your handy sewing a spare zip or two.
I used two clip on ear-rings and a old necklace and attached one ring to my nose and the other to my ear with the old bit of necklace hanging over my face. Worked a treat as I was surprised when I won a prize.

Try the pound shops for costumes - my local Poundland has bunny girl/cat/cowboy/angel accessory (sp?) sets for £1 (duh!). They look quite good. The bunny girl one has bunny ear headband, bunny tail on elastic and pink bow tie. Think the others are roughly the same.

go as the-person-who turns-up-to-a-facy-dress-party-without-ralising-its-a-fancy-dress-party. or, for a bit more effort, the pnuk idea suggested is good, or wear a baggy t-shirt, jeans and as much shiny 'bling' jewellery as poss. (u can probs get a heap of this cheap from claire's accessories) and go as a hip hop artist.Win 2008 in 2008 member number.....237!!! Won so far: £0.00

If you stay with the punk idea. I got a yellow swimming cap and tucked my hair inside it and then attached one of those folded foil star christmas decorations. When you open it out half way it looks like a 'mohican'.
Cheap to do as you should find most of these things already knocking about the house somewhere.

Many moons ago my parents went to a fancy dress party dressed as each other- mother in a man's suit, and Dad in a pink frock:rotfl:
How very MSE of them- they already had the wig lying around, so no cost involved at all!Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

if you have a pair of old trousers and an old top you could do what my friend did...he bought lots of cheap green balloons and some safety pins. He blew up the balloons and used safety pins to attach them through the knotted ends...he went as a bunch of grapes x0

I can remember years ago, going to a party as heaven and hell, the hell half old black clothes and half face done like devil, the heaven part a old white sheet with an angel wing made from cardboard. Made a horn from scrunched up paper and half halo from cardboard.:hello:What goes around - comes around
give lots and you will always recieve lots0 -
you could go as a xmas tree..tis the season and all that lol, if you dont have anything green then go to primark and get a cheapy green thingy and then just use your xmas tree decs to pin on etc and put a fairy on a headband...quite cheap.
or you could try shrek....this is my son, all clothes from a charity shop cheap, the wasitcoat was a brown t shirt i cut up and laced with shoe laces and the head was a green swin hat that I cut holes in with paper cones and a lot of green face paint...he won
and once for school for healthy eating day they had to dress as fruit or veg etc so again a green t shirt green ballons in a line down his top and green crepe paper curved around it...a pea pod lol0 -
