Change to flight time

Options
I understand that if a flight is DELAYED that it's possible to get compensation for the inconvenience. But what about if the airline were to advise 10 weeks before departure that the flight would be taking off 8 hours later. The impact to me being that I would have to pay extra to the car hire provider for them to stay open, plus the first night of holiday being ruined. Is it possible to get compensation for this as it would seem that we had no choice but to accept the change.

No compensation is payable because the airline has given you sufficient notice.

However you might be able to cancel the flight for a refund.
