Tui flight delay compensation

Hi we were in Cape Verde on a TUI package holiday, our flight back was cancelled back on the Thursady 18th July due to technical/staff issues with the plane, then on Friday their was the IT issues for everyone.
TUI eventually manged to get us back to Birmingham airport Tuesday morning 23rd July.
We know should be entitled to £520 each for the delay but can we also claim additional costs? Extra £240 in parking fees loss of earnings at work as have to take unpayed leave for 2 days.
Also we had train tickets booked and a hotel booked for the 19th/20th July for a gig in Birmingham which was non refundable could we also claim that back of them?
Perfectly honest TUI were absolutley shocking in keeping us updated whilst on holiday no information whatsoever, seem to just been forgotten about they were only intrested in getting all their other flights back home so as not having to pay anyone else compensation.

Thanks Simon

The compensation is intended to cover all the various costs of the kind that you mentioned, so no, you are not going to get anything further from TUI. They should have paid a hefty amount for your 'care' during that extended delay.

    Can your insurance help?

You won't get any consequential losses recompensed from TUI. As above, check with your travel insurance.

Watch out for TUI claiming the delays were due to the outage on Friday (which I suspect would reasonably come under the exceptional circumstances exclusion) rather than the initial delay on Thursday due to staff/technical issues.

Will have to go down the travel insurance route if TUI won't pay at least the additional car parking etc.

Have got screen shots from TUI saying that the cancellation was due to staffing issues so hopefully they can't wriggle out of that one.

The law of unintended consequenses! A side benefit of EC261 is that once a flight has passed the compensation threshold it's easier to sacrifice it and keep everything else on the road.

One 12 hour delay is much better than three 4 hour delays!

The outage took out Tui's entire staff rostering sytem.

So are we saying that Tui will not pay compensation for delays for example did not get home until 3 days later . Will they pay for expenses such as meals and soft drinks 3 days car parking charges and additional room tax.

Airlines aren't obliged to pay compensation for delays or cancellations that are caused by extraordinary circumstances beyond their control.

However, they are required to pay for accommodation and meals while waiting for delayed departure, which will often be handled by passengers picking up the tab initially and then reclaiming with receipts.

Additional parking charges aren't covered under the flight delay/cancellation regulations so you'd need to persuade the airline or try your insurer.

Operating systems did start encountering issues on the Thursday.
