I can't see that the tool asks for your phone number, so I can't imagine how your number would have been sent to scammers, if MSE would even do such a thing.
Sounds like coincidence.2 -
Given the form on this site doesn't ask for a telephone number then clearly there is no connection between the tool and the form itself.
The tool itself doesn't send the email but you either use the email client on your device by hitting the button or copy/paste the text into your email client/webmail yourself. In both cases you hit send on your webmail/email client yourself.
Most likely, it's a pure coincidence. There is a chance that your computer is infected with virus/malware so others are seeing your emails and similarly email isn't a secure communication method and can be intercepted but for both of these it would still require the bad actor to be able to tie up your email address to a phone number unless you have an email signature set that puts the telephone number on each and every email sent.
My money would go on coincidence.1 -
Hi @vickster2024
We can absolutely assure you that the MSE Car Finance Reclaim Tool is not passing any personal information on to any other parties. No personal data is saved and, as others have said, the form does not request a phone number.
We recommend blocking any spam/scam numbers if your phone has that function (some phones will even allow you to report a number as well as blocking it), and it's always worth regularly using antivirus software on all of your devices.
All the best,

Within a few seconds it's purely coincidence, the firm couldn't even have read your email
I have seen a few scam adverts in Gmail and junked texts from people telling me I'm owed money under DCA - the only car finance I had was 0% lol, perhaps the firm moved it from 0.0% to 0.00%Sam Vimes' Boots Theory of Socioeconomic Unfairness:
People are rich because they spend less money. A poor man buys $10 boots that last a season or two before he's walking in wet shoes and has to buy another pair. A rich man buys $50 boots that are made better and give him 10 years of dry feet. The poor man has spent $100 over those 10 years and still has wet feet.
