I had this problem recently with a top that ripped, they said the receipt didn't match and refused to refund/exchange.
  • I had exact same thing in Burtons.......they said the receipt didn't match the item. I take it yours WAS the right receipt? I posted a thread about it here. I got a refund though. Sorry you didn't.

was you looking for an exchange or a refund f the item was too small

you have the receipt that was given to you, if they printed out the wrong information then that is their fault not yours.

as long as the item is in a saleable condition with the tags on etc then they should be able to sell it -= most shops eclude undewear and earings for hygeine reasons.

state to them even if they have a policy, the sale of goods act superceeds their policy and if nessecary you will involve trading standards etc.

the sale of goods act superceeds their policy and if nessecary you will involve trading standards etc.

Sale of goods act does not cover a incorrectly bought size. If you buy a shirt or jumper that is too small then that is not the store's fault and there is no fault with the actual item (unless incorrectly size marked in respect to others marked the same size).

If you involve trading standards just because you bought the wrong size and the store refuses to refund (remember item in OP post is not faulty) then all they will do is laugh at you.

From what I've read, op bought item, didn';t fit. took back for refund.
The receipt she took with it does not list (appartenly) the itme s/he is trying to return and therefore they are unable to offer a refund but are offering an exchange.

This is the same in every single other shop- with tags on but no receipt they will not offer a refund but will do an exchange.
Refunds are only processed with a receipt.

It does make sense though, for example. if somebody had stolen the jumper the shop would be out maybe the whole of 50p but, if they stole it and then took it back without the item being on the receipt (obv) and got a refund that shop would be out say £5.

I think that being offered an exchange is exactly what I would expect in any shop- sorry I can't be of much more help on the matter

I had similar trouble with primark. I recieved about 4 versions of the same outfit for my daughter, and wanted to exchange one for the next size up so that she would get some wear out of them. It was in perfect condition, labels still on, but I had no receipt. I only wanted to swap it for exactly the same outfit but bigger...the girl behind the customer service desk said they didn't sell them...despite the 'early days' label they were apparently not even Primark stock and I was 'trying to pull a con'.
In Primark you get bargain clothes - but you have to put up with 'cut price' customer service too....
