What do you make of this tablet please?

Yes, I cleaned it out when I asked about it on here. Took ages to restore everything but still no MSE. That problem came after the last reorganisation/upgrade of the site.

Yes, I tried to get into MSE via a search engine so it;s not just the shortcut. Probably a good thing.

I like the tablet because it's instant loading and can be carried around easily.

I tried a loaned Samsung, some random one and a small Samsung that came in around £100. I wasn't keen, too touch sensitive for an old dear, but may try that again.

I did think about Chromebook if I can get a basic and save to cloud. I'll start looking into it.

I'd still have my laptop and keep it for my photography, saving stuff and it's dvd player (it was top of the range when bought).

There’s the Fire Max 11 tablet, which is on ebay for around £120-130.

Both are interesting. The first cheaper :)and the second has a memory card slot...........not that I need it but you never know.

I'll check them out further as soon as I can. Car problems and looking for another have over taken over at the mo from whether I can read MSE forums

The Fire tab means I have to engage with Amazon and just adds another dimension of awkwardness. Also I need Goggle play store (I think) for the two apps I want. Don't think they engage with the library should I want to start downloading books. Shame because they are well designed tablets.

What is the exact issue with MSE website? Do you get errors or it just doesn't load or..?

You can add Google Play services to an Amazon Fire Tablet should you need to.

A little tricky but easy enough to follow the instructions you will find online.

I've been in touch with MSE but seems I'd have to update - and as I'm using it to access the net and not signed in to Amazon I'd have to do that - and don't want to.

It does what I bought it for, podcasts and searching the net, other site forums etc. Just this one.

But as I may have said, car won't start and I need a new one so the tablet has taken second billing   I'll come back to it when I've sorted my other probs - which have come in a heap - so I've taken all advice on board to be used as soon as I've got the bigger ones dealt with.

I'll look at the YouTube to get GooglePlay but think It's going to be problems with not signing into Amazon.

Download the apk, lastest one atm is duckduckgo-5.209.2-play-release.apk
Install it,  you might get warnings about risk and allowing apk from unknown sources
I've just  downloaded it on my Fire 11 and works well.
