What do you make of this tablet please?

So looking for a cheap tablet.
Play podcasts and check forums is my main use.
(My old one won't show MSE any more but does all other sites I use.)
Also I have an injury and have to lay down a lot so would be good to watch iplayer etc.

Unfortunately speakers aren't something I can find information on ie how loud and clear.

This one has a USB port so I can copy stuff and print out at the library.
Not many have them. MIcro SDs and such would be a real hassle with the library computers

Want to buy local Argos because I'm rural and if anything is wrong it's easy to return.

It is a bit heavier and has less battery life than I would like. I could possibly use  plugged in mostly but the USB port

Your thoughts would be most welcome. So many gadgets, so much to think about and check my head spins :)

I would say this is just at the border line of usability. 32Gb is not enough storage ( a memory card will be needed)
The processor is a bit underpowered so you may find iPlayer not as smooth as you'd like.
    4Gb memory is okay
    Screen is not particularly good.
You are unlikely to get security updates and it's on a previous version of Android.

Personally, I would go for something like the Samsung A9 which is on offer at £129 or if you can splash out the 8Gb version which is about £50 more.
  • If I was just using tablet for browsing and playing stuff I wouldn't personally wouldn't be concerned with future security updates.
Spending £90 on a tablet with keyboard isn't going to get you much, have you considered used/ referb?

Odd, but I'd be cautious of bargain bucket tablets with outdated version of Android and limited CPU/RAM which could show the same issues when browsing.

Thank you all. That's really helpful.
I read all this stuff in the description and it means little to me overall without the experience.

Vitor, yes it's possible but what I've been using is really old but it still does everything else. I have chatted with MSE staff who are sympathetic that with me being moneysaving I need a newer gadget as I can't see that one site.
Unfortunately we post pandemic we don't have the second hand shops now. Loved those. Only the eternal ipads are available.

Have you tried a different browser (app) to access MSE?

Browsing the internet is exactly when you do need to be concerned about security updates. I would look at Motorola or Samsung along with Amazon Fire tablets.

It's an old Amazon Fire tablet (7) that I'm using.
I bypassed signing up so I didn't get the hassle because I only wanted it to play podcasts, radio while working in the garage or garden and it didn't matter if it met an accident. At £25 it's been great for 4yrs, still is.

I'm pfaffing around because I'd like (not need) either a phone or tablet and could do with a light laptop as my state of the art one is old too.

I just got used to checking the forums in the morning, guess I should get a real life :)
I'd also like a stars app and bird song app and spotify - but it's all just play.

But these are all just entertainment. Need a holiday after 6yrs, and a car which is old and my cameras are packing up and my laptop ok but aged so any time - so finances are tight.
Think I have some priority planning to decide.

Try a factory reset of your tablet and then just re-install the apps you must have and see if it works ok.

If your Fire is 9th Gen (2019) it's still supported, so agree with above it's odd ig it's just MSE
Have you tried cleaning storage & cache of your browser?

A Chromebook may be just the ticket. Bigger screen and should be better speakers. Could replace laptop and tablet. No need to worry about security as they are renowned for being good in that area.
You should be able to get something within budget from CEX.
If you're lying down it might be easier to view if you have it on a table next to you.
