EasyJet compensation for cancellation

Hi
This morning at 10.30am we received a text from EasyJet to say that our flight from Liverpool, which was due to leave at 19.15, had been cancelled.
Then at 11:01 easyJet text again to say they are putting us on a flight from Manchester tomorrow at 19:50.
This means we have lost a full day of our holiday and I wonder what if any compensation I should claim for.
We have 6 in our party.

This would fall under the "exceptional circumstances" provision, so no compensation will be due. An insurance claim should be straightforward.

Why would it be exceptional circumstances?

I am assuming that it was a consequence of the IT outage. Have they said anything about the reason for the problem?
