    Have a look at  Bestproductreviews.co.uk and search for 10 best handheld vacuum cleaners.  The top 2 are more than your budget but there are a quite few less than £50.  

    I’ve got a Black & Decker DustBuster flexi.  It’s about £70 and it’s rechargeable so no long cords.  I bought it originally for the car and the stairs, it’s quite good for those and removes cat hairs effectively.  They do a corded version as well, it’s £35-40.
