The probability of the overflows being blocked from differing causes is low. So you are looking at some issue after the two are combined. As this is in a flat with the scope to do damage down below, I'd get a plumber to check it out. If you can find one that hasn't appeared on rogue traders!

Dont think we will ever know, which is worrying because it could happen again.

Except next time the plug won't be in.

When you go away for a few days, it's always a good idea to turn the water off at the mains.
  • In our last house, the bathroom taps used to turn themselves on full, first thing in the morning - not very often, but we never found out why and put that down to a ghost:eek:

don't know if you've got it sorted yet, but my cold tank's overflow was piped in to the bath overflow but so i comes out into the bath as there's no way for it go outside and it's the only way for it to let me know there's a problem there.
    Hope the fish are ok

Plumber said most likely cause is:

That I turned the tap off at the same time that someone else was using a large volume of water eg bath/washing machine etc and that this caused a drop in water pressure as we all use the same tank.

So where I thought I had turned the tap off in wasn't quite tight enough, so when they stopped using water the pressure increased again and allowed water to trickle through very slowly eventually stopping due to muck in the fitting.

Does this sound plausable? really dont want this to happen again

Tenants back, opps! 1 ceiling needs replacing, big hole:o
