Please can someone tell me what happened?
Yesterday son leaves his flat for work at 2pm arrives home at 8.45pm
Calls me and asks, 'mum have you been round ?'. No is the reply.
He has come home to find water on his kitchen floor (next door to the bathroom) and when followed it back, opens bathroom door and the bath is full of water to the point of almost/overflowing. Floor soaked, the water in the bath has been over the edge. Checked taps turned off, no sign of leak around tap etc.
The bath had the plug in and was 3/4 full as he has his goldfish in it at the moment waiting for new tank to arrive within the next 2 weeks. All fish ok.
The people in the flat below are away till Tuesday, so we dont know how bad the damage is there if any?, but also have no idea when the bath started and stopped filling up with water.
Never had any sign of leaky washer etc
Came to the only sensible answer...GHOSTS! but I was hoping that someone else but have a better idea...

Could he have left the tap running even slightly before he went out? Maybe the fish were conspiring to escape ... 'We've been rumbled ... open Charlie Tunnel ...'0

I did a water change for the fish on xmas eve, no need to touch taps again till tomorrow.
He is sure that if the height of the water had risen slowley,he would have noticed as it must must have been at least at overflow pipe level if I hadn't turned the tap off tightly on xmas eve.
Fish escape...good thinking, hadn't thought of that one! maybe higher IQ than I think.0 -
just thought of another problem
if it has caused damage to the flat below, what on earth do I tell them happened? The truth (we dont know) sounds daft0 -
I bet the bath overflow is working correctly as well?0

good point, dont know,
didnt think to suggest that to DS yesterday before he emptied the bath. He used a plastic bowl and put the water down the loo incase the gravel got sucked into the plug hole.
Will test that tomorrow whilst we are both there.0 -
Were the fish still in the tank or swimming in the bath?0

If it's working then it shouldn't be possible for the bath to overflow.
Was it raining on the day in question?0 -

Fish have been in the bath, loose, for about 2 weeks now.
Their tank developed a leak after he moved into the flat, must have got damaged moving house, they need a large tank so he has ordered one but due to xmas/new year delivery taking longer. So he put them in there.
We are only 10 mins from him, so he stops by here for a shower enroute to work.0 -
Lorian yes it was raining yesterday0
