TSB branch won't accept postal orders

We have a club (business) account with TSB but when we tried to deposit a crossed PO which is made out in our club name at the local branch they said they don't accept them. Can they legally refuse to accept them? Should we try again using a TSB bank envelope and pay it in at the post office?

I thought only the Post Office could redeem them? I'd certainly be heading to the Post Office to do it if I were you.2

No, you can only pay crossed ones into a bank account.

try the postal order help centre

Try contacting TSB through facebook and ask if they accept them.
Sometimes branch staff haven't seen one and don't know what to do with one.1 -

This.
Historically Postal Orders were an entirely separate payment method. However they are now a subset of cheques.
Do TSB allow cheques to be paid in online? If so you may find it perfectly acceptable to them via this method, or of course via another branch.2 -

They are making things incredibly difficult for themselves if they won't adopt something that's been around for over quarter of a century. It wouldn't surprise me if it was just a clueless employee, I'd imagine that paying in a postal order is a very rare occurence these days so maybe they have never even seen a postal order before. I'd try phoning a couple of other branches and see what they say, maybe ones in large towns that would be more likely to have dealt with postal orders.2
