Question about 10 year rule.

Ok, I’m not dumb but I’m a bit confused about the 10 year rule for passport when entering the EU. I’m only asking because this past week we were boarding a Ryanair flight and the checkin girl mentioned that my wife had better get hers sorted because although it was issued in April 2015 it expires in August 25.
So, we are traveling to Spain on the 4th of September and returning home 22nd of September.
Her passport was issued on 16th April 2015 and expires 16th August 2025. I believe we have to ignore the extension and class it as expiry 16th April 2025? Is it 6 months or 3 months that need to have left on it on entry to Spain?
The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.

Expiry date has not changed. (It is still August) Spain requires 3 months after departure so if you leave 22nd September 2024 you need an expiry date after 22nd December 20241

The link that has been kindly provided says:Spain follows Schengen area rules. Your passport must:
- have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive – if you renewed your passport before 1 October 2018, it may have a date of issue that is more than 10 years ago
- have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area

A source I'd trust but not actually from the horses mouth as its Spain/EU which sets its entry criteria not the UK government.p00hsticks said:0 -
To be fair, as well as summarising the rules, the page does prominently link to the definitive EU page at https://europa.eu/youreurope/citizens/travel/entry-exit/non-eu-nationals/index_en.htm, as shown in the post before yours.DullGreyGuy said:

So her information was wrong? I heard a story like this last week in the papers where a family of 4, travelling to Spain with Ryanair, the father couldn’t travel because they said the extension was irrelevant, and he had to treat it as expired 10years from issue. He flew out the next day with Jet 2 who said they were happy to accept them.Caz3121 said:Expiry date has not changed. I think the person on check in was simply highlighting the fact that there isn't long left on the passport for travel to EU.

Issued April 2015 , valid for an entry date before April 25.stoneman said:Ok, I’m not dumb but I’m a bit confused about the 10 year rule for passport when entering the EU. For exit , the August 25 expiry date applies.2 -
That story, as republished a few days ago from a popular Instagrammer, omits the exact dates when alleging that Ryanair asserted that the passport had been issued over ten years previously while Jet2 allowed the passenger to travel, so both of these can't be true....stoneman said:

However, the rules remain as shared earlier on this thread, i.e. there are two completely separate date checks, one relating to (ten years from) issue date and the other to expiry date.0 -
Thanks, that’s the first clear explanation I have seen. (Maybe I am dumb)sheramber said:
